longer. Divided into 26 hours: 13 anti-meridian and 13 post-meridian.

mass.
All citizens are entitled to 1400 calories a day, two sets of seasonal attire, basic
accommodation, standard medical care, comm net access and data, a standard all-in
communication device with no add-ons.
Federal and State Service: every city-state
maintains large farms and some factories. Every two-three months, all citizens of
every age report to central areas to sow, reap, preserve or process basic
necessities. Since there are different types of climate, and therefore different
types of crops, the city-states exchange items and distribute them.
Basic
Accomodation: large hexagonal flat (apartment), with 3 hexagonal bedrooms breaking up an
open living space of sitting area, dining area and kitchen. 1 bathroom.
Community
Service: all living complexes, both flats and collections of independent houses, have
requirements for community service. It counts towards rent for rentals and taxes
and community fees for owned dwellings. Jobs are strictly shared, with age,
physical or mental handicaps however being factored for level of support in a job or
actual assignment. Everything required to maintain the community, including
vegetable and medicinal plant gardens, physical repairs, recycling processing, etc is
done by anyone over the age of 5 that lives there.
85% of Pele population still
embraces the community way of life.
All Pele Humans serve in the military upon completing basic education either at 16 or
18. Six months training and testing followed by 1 year of active service.
Some choice of branch of service allowed, but it can be overridden based on testing
results, affinity or discipline issues.
For 5 years after the year of compulsary
service, 3 months reservist service owed, as well as 6 2-day training session per
year.
15% of the population involved in full-time military.
Space program is
largely voluntary, but two of the off-world mining facilities are penal
colonies.
No jobs are full time, year around. Even functions like police have
3 months of leave time. No pay for leave time. Many managerial jobs are part
time, all year for continuity. Factories may not run for a full year.
Most mining is done off-world. No strip mining allowed on Pele itself. Many
mines on Pele itself are part-time efforts by people on their leave time, having a whack
at a communal material vein, deep inside tunnels dug with no particular regard for
safety. Off-world mining done within domes on several large planets. Some
asteroid harvesting, but resources are too plentiful to risk the highly expensive,
rarely produced space craft on something that radical and debris forming. Pele's
rings are off-limits to mining.
Luxury items, cultural items are revered, especially if they came from
earth.
Music is important, as is story telling.
